Aside from Hypertext 2023, Rome has so much to offer. We have put together a brief information guide for participants joining us in the Eternal City. These include places to visit, where to buy tickets, and guided tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are three central information points in the city centre where you can find information about events, entrance to museums and sites, and buy tickets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you have two or more days in Rome for sightseeing you may want to purchase a Roma Pass<\/a>, which includes free entrance to two museums, discounted entrance to all other museums or archaeological sites, and free city public transport (see website for more details).<\/p>\n\n\n\n ATAC<\/a> operates almost all the public transport systems in Rome including subways, trains, buses, light rail, and trams. By buying a single transport card or ticket (see website) you will have access to nearly all means of public transport in the city.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are many options for finding your way around Rome including the low-tech guidebook, the guided tour, and the digital self-tour. If you have time before you travel, you may want to read up on some of the most popular (or the most low-key) places and experiences Rome has to offer:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you would prefer to find your way on foot, Guruwalk<\/a> offers guided tours (in English and other languages) that are pay as you like. Tours include Rome\u2019s \u2018Greatest Sights\u2019, \u2018Dark Rome\u2019 and the \u2018Trastevere district free food tour\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you want to avoid the rush (and other tour participants) of a guided tour, you can by Self-Tours<\/a> recorded guide and do things at your own time and pace. This tour starts from the Spanish stairs (conference venue). <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are so many incredible places to visit in Rome, and so many websites which have curated excellent lists of these places that we have only provided a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One thing to mention is that there will be large numbers of tourists in Rome in September and tickets for the Vatican, the archaeological sites and the galleries can sell out in advance. If you want to visit a specific attraction, try and get tickets before you travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just like places to visit, places to eat are abundant and there are lists and curated content online that cater to every taste and budget. TripAdvisor<\/a> is a reliable source to find restaurants that take bookings, have outside seating, deliver, or serve traditional Rome cuisine (amongst other criteria).\u00a0 We\u2019ve included a list of vegetarian \u2018friendly\u2019 places and food markets (can recommend a visit) as options but there are so many more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you have a few days to spare and feel like a change of scenery you can travel from \u2018Roma Termini\u2019 via train to many of Italy\u2019s cities and coastal regions. Trains go direct to incredible cities such Milan, Pisa, Florence and Turin, as well as beautiful coastal regions such as Naples and Salerno.
