Submissions

Format and submission link

Participants are asked to submit a short lightning paper representing current work or original thinking in this area with the intention of encouraging interactive group discussion. The work presented should directly engage with the hypertextual specificity of webcomics.

Submissions should be 2 pages excluding references and use the single-column ACM submission format available at https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/taps/acm_submission_template.docx.

Accepted participants will be invited to submit revised papers, incorporating feedback and insights following the workshop, in a special collection of The Comics Grid: Journal of Comics Scholarship.

Papers may be submitted through the following EasyChair link: https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=ht23. Please ensure you select “Webcomics and/as Hypertext” as the track.

Peer review

We are looking for creative and innovative ideas and perspectives on where webcomics and hypertext intersect. Papers can reflect current work in this area or considerations of future possible research. Each submission will be assessed based on its:

  • fit with the workshop’s scope
  • clarity, validity, sound methodology and contribution to the fields of Comics Studies and of Hypertext Studies, Digital Humanities, Human-Computer Interaction and related disciplines.
  • compliance with the ACM submission guidelines.

The workshop organizers will make an initial assessment of the submission and decide whether it is suitable for peer review. The submissions selected will be sent for double blind peer review through an evaluation form, comprising an evaluation of strengths, weaknesses, methodology, presentation and impact.  This is to ensure every aspect of the submission is evaluated against this call for submissions and the workshop’s scope. The review process is understood as a dialogue between authors, reviewers, and the Organizing Committee. Reviewers should critically evaluate the submission, but always be constructive in tone.

Overall responsibility rests with the workshop organizers, who are supported by the workshop’s program committee.
