The demonstrations track complements the overall program of the conference. Demonstrations show implementations of novel, interesting, and important concepts or systems related to Hypertext. We invite submissions which address the main topics of the conference. All submissions are intended to convey a scientific result or work in progress and should not be advertisements for commercial software packages. The page limit for demo papers is 4 pages. Accepted demo papers will be published in the HT 2016 Extended proceedings.

Submissions will be reviewed by experienced and knowledgeable researchers and practitioners; each submission will receive a detailed feedback. It would be beneficial to include links enabling the reviewers testing the application or reviewing the component.

Accepted demos will have a space to demonstrate the system to conference attendees during the poster and demo session.

Submission Format

Submissions should follow the same guidelines as the full papers. The page limit is 4 pages, including references. All submissions should be formatted according to the official ACM SIG proceedings template and submitted through the EasyChair ACM HT 2016 Extended Proceedings site, designated as a "Demo" paper. Only PDF documents will be accepted.

Important Dates

May 6, 2016: Demo submission deadline.
June 3, 2016: Demo acceptance decision.
June 24, 2016: Camera-Ready.

This session is a venue for early stage research results, as compared to the full-paper track of the conference. Late-breaking results contain original and unpublished accounts of innovative research ideas, preliminary results, industry showcases, and system prototypes. Papers can cover any of the 3 full paper tracks listed for Hypertext 2016 (See Conference Tracks).

Submissions will be assessed based on their originality and novelty, potential contribution to the research field, potential impact in particular use cases, and the usefulness of presented experiences, as well as their overall readability.

Please note that late-breaking papers are not a second chance for those that did not make it to the main track. Only new research with up-to-date results are considered as late-breaking results.

Accepted papers will be presented at the poster session during Hypertext 2016 and will be published in the Hypertext 2016 Companion Proceedings on CEUR-WS.org.

In the wake of a booming resurgence of interest in creative hypertext over recent years, we are increasingly seeing new directions and possibilities for artists exploring the creative potential of the link. This year, we are delighted to offer a space for exhibition and performance of creative hypertext works at the conference venue.

We invite the submission of a broad range of creative works from a variety of artistic traditions that engage with the expressive potentials of hypertext, the link, and social media—particularly those that address the conference theme of “Missing Links.” Example forms include but are not limited to:

  • Literary hypertexts
  • Hypertext poetry
  • Hypertext games
  • Interactive Web art pieces
  • Interactive video
  • Experimental or conceptual hypermedia works
  • Social Media fiction
  • Interactive sonic art
  • Expressive Mobile or Web Apps
  • Locative works
  • Augmented Reality Works

Other presentation formats are welcome and should be described in the proposal.

We are especially asking for work that can be presented or demonstrated in 10 minutes even if the work might take longer to fully explore all content. Because of space limitations, works not exhibited via computer, tablet, or mobile device may not be accommodated; please specify your requirements in your proposal. We are not able to accommodate installation pieces.

Proposals should include the following information

  • Artist statement and description of artistic goals
  • Description of the piece
  • Link to the piece (or documentation if applicable)
  • Up to 3 images to be used for promotion
  • Total length of piece, length of demo portion
  • Presentation format
  • Hardware/software/sound requirements
  • Review codes (if the piece is available behind a paywall)

Submissions should follow the same guidelines as the full papers. The page limit is 4 pages, including references (if any). Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit either workshop or tutorial proposals to be held in conjunction with Hypertext 2016. The workshops and tutorials will provide participants with opportunities to discuss, explore, and learn emerging areas of Hypertext and Social Media with fellow students, researchers, and practitioners from Industry and Academia.

The workshop and tutorial proceedings will be published in the Hypertext 2016 Extended Proceedings.

Submission deadline: 15 January 2016 (passed)

Accepted workshops can be found in the Call for Workshop Contributions. Please consider submitting to one of the workshops.

Workshop Proposals

The goals of the workshops are to provide a more informal setting for exchanging opinions, to share experiences, presenting ideas, foster research community and identify open problems and/or explore directions for future research. As such, they also offer a good opportunity for researchers to present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community in an interactive atmosphere. Proposals are especially encouraged on emerging topics, related to the main conference tracks (i.e., missing links on the WWW), but may also include other (novel) topics which might be of interest for the hypertext community.

Acceptance of workshop proposals will be based on the experience and background of the organizers in the topic, and on the relevance of the subject matter with regard to the topics addressed in the main conference. We welcome proposals for different types of workshops, from working groups on a specific topic to more traditional conference-like workshops. However, we prefer “interactive” workshops that guarantee richer active interactions among participants and provide significant room for controversial and stimulating discussions. Potential proposers are invited to discuss their ideas with the workshop chair before working out a detailed proposal.

Send your workshop proposals (in PDF format) by email to the workshop/tutorial chair, with the following information:

  • Title of the workshop and suggested acronym
  • Keywords (describing the main themes)
  • Abstract
  • Description of the workshop (topics and goals)
  • Relevance of the workshop to Hypertext 2016
  • Workshop organizers bios (1-2 paragraphs per organizer)
  • Motivation (why the topic is of interest for the conference audience)
  • Workshop and submission formats
  • Length (half day or full day- in this case, motivation for the need of a full day)
  • Previous editions of the workshop series, if applicable (URLs, conference it was co-located with, number of registrants, number of submissions, number of accepted papers, and any other relevant information)
  • Any plan for further publication (e.g., special issue in journals)
  • Initial list of (potential) members of the program committee

Tutorial Proposals

As part of the Hypertext 2016 program, in addition, we cordially invite proposals for tutorials from active researchers and experienced tutors in academia, industry, and government agencies. Ideally, a tutorial will cover the state-of-the-art research and ideas, innovative developments, and novel applications in a specific aspect of hypertext and social media, but proposals are especially encouraged on emerging topics, related to the main conference tracks (i.e., missing links on the WWW).

Send your tutorial proposal (in PDF format) by email to the workshop/tutorial chair with  the following information:

  • Title of the tutorial
  • Keywords (describing the main themes of the tutorial)
  • Abstract
  • Description of the tutorial (topics and goals)
  • Tutorial presenters biographies  (1-2 paragraphs per presenter)
  • Length of tutorial (1.5 or 3 hours)
  • Expected background and prerequisite of audience
  • Relevance of the tutorial to Hypertext 2016
  • A list of references/resources to be covered in the tutorial
  • Previous editions of the tutorial, if presenters have given similar tutorials elsewhere

The accepted proposal presenters should provide comprehensive tutorial notes or slides to the tutorial audience free of charge.

The Hypertext 2016 conference invites the following contributions and provides the following opportunities for publication. Please refer to the conference tracks for a list of topics relevant to the conference.

The deadline for the main proceedings has passed and we received 84 interesting submissions. Check out the list of accepted papers. We have five more calls for late submissions to the Extended Proceedings.
